Matthew 24:36

36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

Intellectual pride is a scary thing. When we reflect on the crazy breakthroughs and gadgets that constantly flow out of universities and companies around the world we start to get a little overconfident. We get in trouble when we start to think humans can understand anything. Then we believe the silly lie that we will soon understand everything.

That’s why a verse like this one from Matthew is such a great correction. Jesus tells us the Father knows the day and hour and we have to just wait. We won’t figure it out. It requires the humility of a child to trust that God will handle all the important stuff that we can’t handle. But don’t lose sight of the joy of the child who can play and work without a care because Dad’s in charge.

Prayer prompt: Lord, I trust You. Help me to enjoy the humble and care-free life of a beloved child.
